1. News:
-LA County Superior Court has served an injunction to a collective
that supplied medical marijuana to several dispensaries in the LA
area; this is the first sign that the law may not protect collectives
who sell to dispensaries
-More than 2,400 people have died in Mexico due to drug war violence.
In response, the gov’t has created militarized zones out of several
cities including Juarez, but the violence has not ceased; several
chapter leaders have discussed organizing a student response; we will
be discussing this in the future
-Berkeley Needle Exchange has gotten a lot of volunteer applications
recently, so it looks like we won’t be working with them in the near
future; we’re still interested in doing community service and would be
open to suggestions from members
2. Club Logistics:
-We’ll be sending out a mass e-mail to people we’ve received e-mails
for; you will be prompted to tell us whether you would like to stay on
the mailing list or not; this is how we will build our member list
-We have a blog up at calssdp.blogspot.com
-Join the Facebook group if you haven’t already; Search: Students for
Sensible Drug Policy, UC Berkeley Chapter
3. Good Samaritan Policy Overview:
-We’ve voted and it looks like we will be putting emphasis on getting
a City-wide Good Samaritan Policy passed, as opposed to a UC-wide
policy
4. Upcoming Events:
-We’ll be having an “Ecstasy Rising” event; we’ll screen ‘Ecstasy
Rising,’ and then have a video chat with Rick Doblin of
Multidisciplinary Association of Psychological Studies (MAPS); the
date will be forthcoming
-We’re also working on getting a psychedelics panel together,
potentially with a member of MAPS and David Presti
-MAPS is also having their conference April 16-18 in San Jose; google it!
-Legalization Speech Series is something we’re trying to plan as well
-We will be having an event FEBRUARY 16 during our normal meeting time
featuring a video from Law Enforcement Against Prohibition and a short
presentation from James Anthony; come and learn!!!
