SPRING SEMESTER 2011

Greetings SSDP Spring 2011!

Hope you all had a great holiday season! Winter break is over and now is time for another semester of SSDP! We have had a rigorous activist schedule last semester campaigning for Prop 19 where we saw some amazing outreach energy, but now SSDP has some new things planned for this semester! Please check out what’s about to go on:

1.       First General Meeting
2.       Tabling
3.       Events

1. First General Meeting– Tuesday, January 25th
Our club's first general meeting of the semester will take place on TUESDAY, JANUARY 25TH from 7-8 PM at 87 Evans HALL– make sure take note of the change of location. Yes, we have a new room that Berkeley assigned us, and it may be not be biggest but we will take advantage of it.
At our first gathering, we will start off with a meditation session, go over introductions to the club and the board, and educate ourselves about current state of the drug war and of drug facts! We will also be discussing the various events, activities, and projects that we will be engaging with this semester. Please attend and join in on the dialogue!
Be aware that we are conducting our meditation session in the beginning of the meeting, so in order to avoid interference please be courteous if you arrive late and wait outside the door until the session is over at around 7:20pm.

2. Tabling Schedule for the Semester
We ought to first take a moment to recognize the energy and dedication our members put into tabling efforts during last semester’s Prop 19 campaign. It was awesome work and the fact that Prop 19 got over 50% of votes in Alameda County was a great testament to our efforts in outreach.
This time, we are taking it a bit more slowly with tabling with the intention to maintain a regular bi-weekly visibility on Sproul Plaza. We are tabling on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10am – 2pm. Please check us out on Sproul starting this week! Regular tabling sign-ups will be distributed in the meeting.

3.    3. Events (more details to come)

SSDP Retreat
Cornell West of Revolutionary Books
Fundraising for Conferences:
SSDP Conference on the East Coast
DPA Conference @ Long Beach
4/20 with Students for Liberty
Visionary Artist Event ft. Michael Garfield
We got more to come this semester from the Good Samaritan project to guest speakers to awesome socials. SSDP means to educate as well as to be a free space for expression and community. Together we are making steps toward a just society not just in the realm of substances but in all aspects of our experience as humans in community. So let’s open our minds. Spread the word and come check us out!
